The very first thing that I noticed about this book were the absolutely stunning illustrations; they are detailed and life-like, bringing the prairie ecosystem alive.  Children loved to look at the pictures and spot all of the different animals and plants.  The writing is done in a fun way with rhyming verse that builds upon itself.  The intricacies of the prairie are introduced in a natural way, starting from the ground and working up.  Natural processes, food-webs, plant and animal relationships, and weather impacts are all established in an easy-to-understand way.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.
