About the Book:
Publication Date: November 15, 2014
Sand Hill Press
Formats: eBook, Paperback

Genre: Historical Fiction/Biblical

Isaac and Ishmael attempts to bring to human scale the legends and mythic dimensions of Abraham and Sarah, their sons Isaac and Ishmael, and Isaac and Rebecca’s twin sons Esau and Jacob. Readers will experience the struggles, competition, betrayals and loves of these brothers, fathers and sons caught up in the overarching tension between time and eternity, a place where a new God is coming into being—Yahweh, the uncanny, irascible, mischievous, bargaining God who participated in the life of a new people and compelled them to a new way of being human.

The stormy relationship of Isaac and Ishmael has long passed into a tradition which looks to Isaac as the father of the Jewish people, and Ishmael as the father of the Arab people, particularly in Egypt. Similarly, while Jacob carries on his father’s heritage, becoming the father of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, his twin brother Esau, the red-haired archer who sold his birthright for a bowl of lentil soup, is traditionally said to have departed for the North, and populated what would later become Rome. Isaac and Ishmael explores the thorny, complex yet delicate relations between these brothers and fathers, providing a more human understanding of the differences that arise between individuals and peoples, even now as the ancient tensions in the Middle East continue to flare up in modern confrontations and war. Ever present in the story are the strong, subtle and often ambitious women of Biblical legend: Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah.

Read an Excerpt:
Sarai, laughing, has hurt Yahweh’s feelings.

What? I who groan in age am now to groan in pleasure, and bear a son? Who’s kidding whom?

Who is that laughing? says Yahweh. Who thinks I cannot do this thing?

Not I. Her eyes on the ground. Then sideways she sees her husband whose eyes are fixed on the boldest stranger, who sits eating veal and drinking milk under their olive trees. Abram holds his breath. The stranger has just said to him, Count the stars. Can you? Your descendants shall be more. The two men with him are silent, their eyes glitter, their arms like wings tucked at their sides even as they eat.

I’ll be back in nine months, says the stranger, to see your son.

Watch: they wrestle in the tent on the warm skins of calves. Under woven cloth, worn hands caress dry flesh, thin lips press to cheeks once smooth, once firm, still loved.

A deep well of laughter shakes her, a joy not to be named. Her foolish husband thinks this is how it must be done. She felt the dart of light hit her womb when the stranger spoke.

Abram groans bringing forth his last drop of seed, wrung out of him as women twist wet clothes at the river to hurry the drying. He doesn’t think he has been able to thrust far enough, and yet, Yahweh said it.

Spectacle by S.J. Pierce
Genres: Science Fiction, Young Adult

Synopsis:
***This is currently a web series!!! I’m releasing a chapter at a time on my website at www.sjpiercebooks.blogspot.com. You can read there or go to Scribd, download their app, and read there.***

Hunger Games meets Avatar meets Gladiator in this spellbinding new Young Adult Science-Fiction web series by bestselling author Susan James Pierce.

Fear can make you a target…

Two hundred years after the Great Disaster, the day earthquakes ravaged Earth’s landscapes, humanity has finally regrouped and is working toward a better future. But in New America – one of three small, remaining landmasses – the threat of overpopulation makes a better future seem bleaker by the year.

Mira (Mirabella) Foster and her parents are citizens of New America, and with the threat of starvation and disease looming on the horizon, a new discovery threatens to push everyone to the brink of chaos: blue markings develop on people’s skin. Markings that are distinctive of a humanoid alien race named Changers that secretly sought refuge on Earth years ago. Markings that allow them to camouflage their skin, but also make them feared, and eventually, targets of violence.

Mira’s dad is one of them.

Anger can make you a spectacle…

Banished to a treacherous, uninhabited island, a newly orphaned Mira and her kind struggle to survive and settle into a new way of life. Her main priority becomes seeing to Jackson’s care, her friend with Muscular Dystrophy, and tending to her garden as a way of distracting herself from the pain of losing everything she loved. But just as she’s adapting to this new life, their Elders approach her with a plan to insert themselves back into New America to uncover a conspiracy. A conspiracy, they believe, that includes the presidency and landed them on the island, costing many Changers their lives, including her parents’.

In a world where staying on the island means a possible untimely death, as does risking her life to uncover a horrible secret that might one day set them all free, which one will she choose? And if she chooses to help, can she tame her anger over their mistreatment long enough to make sure their plan goes off without a hitch? Because, after all, the last thing her kind needs is to make spectacles of themselves, and as she knows all too well, both anger and fear have a perilous knack for destruction.

About Brayden:
Brayden is a smart and witty twelve-year-old boy, who loves video games and sports of all kinds, especially football, but the only thing holding him back is that he has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He was diagnosed on April 1st, 2010 with the disease, which will one day (possibly sooner than later) put him in wheelchair fulltime. His mind is sharp as a tack, but his little body is giving out daily; the more tired he gets, the more frequent the falls. Luckily he hasn’t broken any bones (yet). He will one day need a tracheotomy to be able to breathe and speak, and his lungs and heart are muscles that will give out just as easy as his arms and legs. Most boys with this disease will not live into their 20’s, and the disease claims lives daily. To help Brayden in his journey with DMD, S.J. has pledged to donate all of her pre-order proceeds to Brayden’s family.

Spectacle Excerpt, Chapter Four

I must have passed out because I awake with a start, cradled in a strong man’s arms. Not my dad. This man smells like pine trees and lemons, his touch cold and unfeeling as he carries me down a hallway. “Mom,” I croak out, my voice far-off. My ears buzz like mosquitos are living inside them.

The man says nothing.

I look for her but don’t see her. I try and squirm free, but he holds me tighter. “Mom!” I cry. “Where’s my mom?”

“Shhh,” he says, more scolding than soothing, “You’ll see her soon.” I obey because he scares me. And because he wears a uniform like the others.

I notice we’re not in the same building as before. The stark white walls, florescent lights and bleach smell tells me we’re in a hospital. A nurse scurries by with a man on a stretcher, and my anxiety swells. I want to wiggle again, but I don’t. A whimper escapes. Where are my parents? I want my parents….

The man takes me into a room where a doctor awaits. She sits on a stool beside a bed just big enough for someone my size. Her eyes roam over me concernedly.

Why would I be hurt?

Gunfire, I remember, and my whimpering turns into a full blown sob.

“She bleeding anywhere?” the doctor asks over my wailing.

He shakes his head, and with more care than I thought he was capable of, he places me on the bed beside her.

She waits for my cries to ebb and looks as though she wants to cradle me, but she doesn’t.

“Where’s… my mom…” I say between broken breaths.

Like the man, she doesn’t give me an answer, though I can tell she’s dying to so it’ll comfort me. “Lie back,” she soothes. Her red hair shines and is cut at an angle against her neck. Freckles splay across her nose, and there’s kindness in her eyes.

I lie back as instructed and work on getting myself together. While her cold hands poke and prod, I stare at the ceiling, tears dripping onto the paper covering the bed. It crinkles as I relax under her touch.

I think of Jacks and Luxxe and their moms. Are they here too? Maybe when the doctor is done she’ll let me see them.

Maybe everyone’s okay.

Loss is sometimes an unavoidable truth on the road to starting over.

Title: Plot 109, Acacia
Author: Alex Briscoe
Genre: Family Saga/Romance/Drama
Release Date: 1 June, 2015
Series: Book 1 of 2

The year is 1989, and until recently Emma Grey and her husband, Richard, have lived what she thought was a fulfilling life. When Richard makes a surprise announcement, Emma’s life is turned upside down as she struggles to come to terms with unexpected responsibilities, acceptance and self-doubt.

With the help of an unconventional support system consisting of her single best friend, her domestic helper, a very tolerant garden boy, and two 3 year olds, Emma embarks on a journey of reinvention and tries to rebuild her life from the ground up. What she wasn’t counting on was meeting Trey - an alluring musician who makes her come alive in a way that both terrifies, and excites her all at once.

But not everything is as it seems, and Trey’s real identity threatens to once again shake the very foundation on which Emma’s new life is built. In a country rife with political struggles, Emma fights to hang on to the ones she holds dear, and will come to find that loss is sometimes an unavoidable truth on the road to starting over.

Plot 109, Acacia, is a touching, and emotionally riveting story set on a rural plot outside Johannesburg in volatile South Africa.

EXCERPT

The enormous black woman bent to pick something up, and it took Emma a moment to grasp that she was collecting the goggas (slang for insects) to cook. She grimaced slightly, finding the idea of eating flying ants repulsive, and her thoughts turned to what to make for dinner for Richard.

A short while later, the front door opened and closed behind her and she heard her husband’s familiar step. He wandered through to his family sitting outside, tugging his tie off as he reached them. Emma smiled up at him as he stood watching the spectacle in front of him for a few seconds, before he said abruptly, “Hi, Em, I’ve got something to tell you.”

Author Bio

I barged into Deacon’s office at eight o’clock that evening. Since his silver Lamborghini
was one of the few cars left in the parking lot, I wasn’t too concerned about interrupting a
meeting.
He looked up from his computer when I stormed in, and a smile quickly replaced his scowl.
“They let you in without clearance?”
I plopped down in the seat across from him, trying not to notice how tempting he looked
with his sleeves rolled up and no tie on. “The receptionist who usually guards your castle left for
the day, and the security guard at the front desk has a crush on me, so he didn’t ask any
questions.”
He frowned. “Which security guard is that?”
I spotted a stress ball on the corner of his desk. I doubted he used it; it looked like a promo
item Alabaster’s gave away. I whipped it at his chest. “You’re not serious.”
He laughed, catching the ball before it hit him. “You have a pretty good arm.”
“Shut up, Deacon!” The nagging voice in the back of my head reminded me I was talking to
my boss, but I told her to mind her own goddamn business and go back to sleep. “I’m pissed at
you.”
He leaned back, kicking his feet up on the desk as he tossed the ball from one hand to the
other and squeezed it. “Do tell.”
“You told Eleni about us.”
“So?”
“So you had no right to do that!”
He seemed totally unfazed by my anger, which only incensed me further.
“She’s my friend. I should have been the one to tell her, when—or if—I decided there was
anything worth telling her.” That got his attention.
When he pinned me with that hot gaze, I feared he would demand I bend over the desk and
take my punishment like a brave girl.
“I asked you not to tell anyone, including Eleni. You didn’t, and I appreciate that. Now that
you’re single, I’ve decided it’s time your best friend know about our… relationship.”
The way he said relationship made me feel as though he had been seeking a different word
but come up short. Arrangement, perhaps? Was that what this was to him?
Not willing to let him have the last word, I said, “We’re not in a relationship. We’re still
getting to know each other. If I like what I see, I might agree to date you, though not exclusively.
I’ve been tied down too long to get serious again so soon.” I swallowed, averting my eyes when
the thin skin across his knuckles turned white from the pressure he was inflicting on the ball.
“Let me get this straight. You might agree to date me—though not exclusively?”
I was almost afraid to push him further, but if I backed down, that would set a precedent for
all future arguments. “That’s right. If you have a problem with that, we can part ways now and—”
He planted his feet on the floor and made his way around the desk slowly, like a panther
preparing to devour its prey. He gripped the armrests of my chair, his face a fraction of an inch
from mine. I held my breath—waiting, praying, and trying to predict what he might do next.
Pushing him had been a very bad idea.
“You really think that’s an option?” he whispered.

When one door closes, another one opens. I closed the door to my business for the last time in 2011, which left me with a decision. What now? Find another location and move my nutrition business, go to work for someone else, or take a chance on my dream? I chose the latter and I’ve never looked back!

I’ve always loved reading and writing, but it wasn’t until I jumped in with both feet and decided writing would be my career, instead of just a hobby, that my muse woke up from her deep slumber. It was like someone flipped a switch inside my head and stories just came pouring out. At the end of the day, I would often look at the keyboard and wonder, ‘Who the heck wrote that? ‘Cause I’m pretty sure it wasn’t me!’

I don’t write books. I tell stories, or rather, I allow my characters to tell their stories through me. I’m not a plotter, never have been, never will be. Why? Because I have no idea how the story will evolve and it’s not my place to manipulate it. My job is to get to know these characters, figure out what makes them tick, then follow their journey wherever it takes me.

When I’m not writing, I’m daydreaming. Thankfully, I have an understanding husband and son who know I’ll re-join the land of the living just as soon as my muse decides it’s quitting time. I don’t work for myself. I work for her. She’s the boss. And I’m okay with that.

Read An Excerpt:
Nicole had all the evidence she wanted to show Michael ready to go when she got to her office on Monday. He was late coming into work. She felt her emotions begin to bubble up again. She was so upset last night as she went over her notes.

She heard the sound of Michael’s footsteps as he passed her office. She took deep breaths to calm herself. She couldn’t go into his office and turn into a blubbering pile of emotions. After a few moments she grabbed the leather tote that had all her notes in it and left her office. She went over to his and knocked once then entered.

“Good morning, Nicole,” Michael said as he sipped his coffee.

“Sir.” She walked over to his desk and just stood there in front of it.

“What’s wrong, Nicole?”

“I finished my research…for the Richard Williams’ case.”

“Well sit down and tell me what you found out.”

She sat on the chair.

Michael was intrigued by her trying to control her emotions.

“I got all the police reports and I comb through all the interviews with the neighbors. I took it upon myself to go interview a couple of the neighbors again.”

“Why would you do that?”

“The statements they gave the cops didn’t feel right.”

“You invested your time because you had a feeling?”

“Yes.”

“Did it pay off?”

Jungle Fever Duology by L.V. Lewis Publication Date: June 18, 2015 Genres: Boxed Set, Contemporary, Erotic, Multicultural, New Adult, Romance

Amazon • Nook

The Jungle Fever Duology by L. V. Lewis is on sale for $0.99! Read both Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever and Exit Strategy for this low price. Sale ends 6/30/2015.

A boxed set of The Ghetto Girl Romance Duology, which includes the books Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever and Exit Strategy:

Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever Keisha Beale, a street-wise Chicago south-sider two years out of DePaul University, is a quarter million dollars in start-up capital away from realizing her dream of owning a recording studio/record store. She takes the place of her more business-savvy partner in a meeting with Tristan White himself, the venture capitalist they've targeted to fund their business. A bi-racial--African American and Brazilian--woman with a troubled past, Keisha has been so focused on her business pursuits that her love life has been non-existent. Tristan White is the devastatingly handsome, 32-year old CEO of White Enterprises, the firm he built using only the inheritance his mother left him to prove to his father he had the mettle to do it alone. He comes from a long line of wealth, and lives the life of a "one-percenter" on Chicago's Gold Coast. Tristan is accustomed to controlling every aspect of his life given his birth into a world of white privilege. 50 Shades To The 2nd Power ... When Keisha and Tristan's worlds collide, sparks fly, and a fever is ignited in them both that they have never experienced before. It turns out they each have secrets, but together, in the unorthodox arrangement Tristan proposes, they discover passions they never knew they had. ... Meets Keisha From The Block! The Ghetto Girl title is, in all truthfulness, a misnomer. Keisha Beale is a highly-educated young woman who just happens to have been born on the other side of the socio-economic tracks. She embraces all of who she is, and navigates almost effortlessly in both worlds. Erotic, amusing, and in places hilarious, the Ghetto Girl Romance Quadrilogy is a parody with a new take on a Fifty Shades type story that will take you even further into the BDSM world, and promises to make the vanilla original Fifty Shades more colorful. Exit Strategy Ex•it Strat•e•gy (noun) 1. A preplanned means of extricating oneself from a situation that is likely to become difficult or unpleasant. 2. The method by which a venture capitalist or business owner intends to get out of an investment that he or she has made in the past. Will Keisha and Tristan exercise their elaborate EXIT STRATEGY and end their unorthodox arrangement? Assailed by demons she thought she had conquered, Keisha Beale has uttered the words to end her tumultuous relationship with Tristan White. Separated, they grapple for a time with their personal demons. However, when their lives apart become unbearable, a credible threat brings them back together prematurely. As they seek to discover who is responsible for the threats, several seemingly unrelated incidents throw them into a tailspin. Will Keisha’s youthful indiscretions or Tristan’s un-reconciled feelings for a former sub derail their tenuous arrangement? In the meantime, trouble in Nathan and Jada’s paradise send dramatic ripples that hint of future difficulties in the idyllic pairing. Nothing Ventured… Tristan uses his vast wealth and connections to correct a gross miscarriage of justice, while Keisha makes herself utterly vulnerable to Tristan and fears he has chosen to exercise his own exit strategy. …Nothing Gained! Will this be the end of the indecent arrangement that became a fairy tale? Or will Keisha and Tristan reveal the trauma from their pasts so they may heal and completely embrace their relationship? Sensual, suspenseful, and still infused with the riotous levity of Triple-G and Fairy Hoochie Mama, the Ghetto Girl Romance Quadrilogy departs from full parody with a distinctive take on love, loyalty, sacrifice, redemption, and acceptance.

The ones in charge… Control everything…
Crud, I’ve started crying because I’m scared I won’t survive World War III. But a bigger part of me is scared I will.

About the Book:
Loving Red by Alisha Costanzo
(Loving Red, #1)
Publication date: September 9th 2015
Genres: Adult, Paranormal Romance

Synopsis:

For Sergeant Severins Bouvier, silence means tactical planning and a large death toll, and he can’t shake how danger threatens him on the beaches of Miami, especially after seeing one of his associates in a local sandwich shop. Worse, the enemy seems fascinated with the woman he can’t stop thinking about—a woman determined not to trust him.

Everything about Sev crashes through Kaia’s carefully placed boundaries, traps, and avoidances. Regardless of her lack of interest in the majority of men, the ones that did catch her off guard left a lot of collateral damage. Who better than a soldier to understand that?

The problem is that she trusts him. Just not with her heart.

Series: The Sarah Weston Chronicles, Book Three

In Delphi, the mountain city deemed by the Greek gods to be the center of the Earth, a cult of neo-pagans re-create with painstaking authenticity ancient rituals to glorify the god Apollo and deliver oracles to seekers from around the world.

When antiquities are stolen from a museum in nearby Thebes, British archaeologist Sarah Weston and her American partner, Daniel Madigan, are drawn into a plot that goes beyond harmless role-playing: someone’s using the Delphian oracle as a smoke screen for an information exchange, with devastating consequences for the Western world.

Pitted against each other by the cult’s mastermind, Sarah and Daniel race against time and their own personal demons to uncover clues left behind by the ancients. Their mission: to find the original navel stone marked with a lost Pythagorean formula detailing the natural events that led to the collapse of the Minoan Empire.

But will they find it in time to stop the ultimate terrorist act?
