An Interview with the Author:
1. When did you first start writing?

A: I’ve been writing all my life; from short stories

I’d ‘sell’ to my sisters, right up tomy first really terrible novel at 14. But the Dark

Secrets series was my first really serious try,which has roughly been years ago

maybe more.

2. What inspired you to write?

A: Music. I hear stories in all kinds of music and love to sit quietly and imagine what

the story might be.

3. Who are some of your biggest influences?

A: That’s a tough one, because there aren’t really any literary ones these days. I’d say

my influences are mostly musicians and filmmakers now. Peter Jackson, Muse,Thirty

seconds to Mars and Birds of Tokyo, to name a few.

4. Is there a special place you go

and a certain mind frame you like to be in before you write?

A: I have 4 kids. I write when they’re not hanging off my leg.

5. What's the most exciting thing that happened to you during your writing career?

A: I could say hitting number one several times on Amazon, but I like to think my

most exiting thing is yet to happen.

6. How do you come up with all the characters and different exciting plots?

A: I imagine or dream about a character then start writing the story and the rest just

falls into place, as if I have an ‘invisible friend’ writing along with me, or as if the

story happened somewhere else and I’m just telling it.

7. What authors have inspired you through your writing and how did they inspire you?

A: Stephen King inspires me toss out excuses as to why I can’t write and also to write

boldly.

8. Do you have advice for any writer who's struggling right now?

A: Nothing to it but to do it. The only guarantee you have with writing is that

persistence pays and quitting leads to ultimate failure. You will begin as a terrible

writer, as we all do, and you will get better. But only by actually writing.

9. What's the silliest thing that you have ever experienced in your writing career?

A: One star reviews. Ha ha ha.

10. Could you share something extra that you would like your viewers to know about you are your writing?

A: I’m a chocoholic. I suck the candy off M & Ms, three at a time, then eat the

chocolate, while I write. I’m also a huge Reign, TVD and Outlander fan.

Extra things your fans would like to know

Your favorite song? Exogenisis Symphony by Muse

Your favorite food? Cadbury chocolate. And Mexican food. But it has to be authentic.

Your favorite movie? Moulin Rouge

I have really gotten to know Angie and she is is one of the the most down to to earth

person I know and very kind hearted. I absolutely love her books. I would read

anything she writes. She is so talented her words seem to bleed off the page into you

heart lingering in your mind but never leaving your soul. It imprints as Jacob did on

Why I Like To Read!

Reading for me is an escape, a calming exercise, my meditation. Reading is something I can do anywhere and a book is something I always have with me. In addition, reading has always been a fun learning tool for me.

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. Once I am sucked into a time period or historical figure, I like to learn as much about them as I can (usually through reading more books!). Go ahead, ask me something about the Tudors!

On the flipside, reading also opens up creativity and imagination. Reading science fiction, fantasy and paranormal gets my churning in new and exciting ways. New experiences and ideas have come to me through reading, reading books about adventures, new cultures and social issues has opened my mind to new things. Reading helps fuel other passions of mine, I also love science, gardening and dance and have expanded and gained new knowledge in these areas by reading.

I caught sight of his cut, thought a moment, and swam away. He floated there, treading water and wondering what would happen next. At that point, his face conveyed the pain in his side. I watched an intense sting replace what I knew of the original burning sensation of a coral abrasion, and the open wound spilled into the ocean at a steady pace.

Conceivably, I had underestimated the severity of the cut. Maybe the coral cut deeper than I thought. The blood clouded the water surrounding him, and now the problem remained of how to take the injured man across the reef without doing further damage. We still needed to cross at least two miles and climb a rocky beach. Or did we?

Before he had time to contemplate any other option, I approached him from below. I swam up to him slowly, and he did nothing. He didn’t dive to meet me or attempt to swim away. He hung vertically in the water, waiting.

He must have felt me before he could clearly see me. The water shifted as I neared, my physicality changing the flow of the ocean around me. He knew I was there, but he didn’t dive below. Was he afraid? Too hurt to move? Instead, he stayed still, moving as little as possible, allowing my approach, and keeping the blood loss at a minimum.

I moved below him and then up, along his body, until my head emerged from the inky blue water and he stared into my eyes. He let out a fast gasp and quickly sank below the surface.

An Interview With the Author:
What is your favorite mermaid story or myth?
Growing up in New England, it seems all stories were about the ocean. I know it is cliché, but I remember sitting on my grandmother’s porch, looking at the water, and wondering if Marina, the “real” little mermaid was actually out there. I guess she started it all for me.

What was the inspiration for your mermaid novella?
I spend a lot of time down in Vero Beach, FL where my sister lives, and since it is on the Treasure Coast there are plenty of stories about buried and found treasure. I wanted to mix pirates with mermaids, and while I didn’t quite do that here, this leads into the next book in my series, The Mark of the Mermaid, which does just that.

Cast your characters. If your novella was made into a movie, who would play your main characters?
Anya would be a Drew Barrymore type, independent and a bit silly. I could see her tripping in front of Luke and just laughing it off. Luke, well, I wrote him with the surfer version of Matthew McConaughey in mind. Focused and fun, at home in the water, and cut!

What was most challenging thing writing about mermaids?
The challenge was determining how much time to put them on land. It isn’t easy to offer mermaid human interaction in the middle of the ocean, so you need a plausible world where they walk on land.

Ursula or Ariel?
Ariel’s curiosity, but not her “sell my soul” naiveté.

What else should we know about your novella?
It’s my first! I have plenty more in the works, but I’m busy reveling in this one right now.
