HuePets is a free phone app that helps kids eat their fruits and veggies. Perfect for picky eaters, or just introducing new foods in a fun way, HuePets are a great tool for getting kids started on a healthy relationship with food.
Once you download the app, it is very easy to get started, kids choose which pet they would like and then they get eating. When your provide your child with healthy options, they also get to feed their pet. Children simply choose the corresponding color on the app to the food they are eating. The app then has you take a picture of the food to generate food to feed to the pet. My child loved watching his pet grow and change colors with the different foods. The more the pet ate, the more swag our pet was able to have.
After a few tries, my three year old was able to feed his pet on his own and was asking for different color foods to try. He loved the physical squishy, Huey as well! In using the app, I did notice that any picture that your child takes that includes an object the color of the food they chose will register as a food. So, I would help children with the photo part. Also, the pet levels up rather quickly, which is great instant gratification for kids, however can also make them feel like they have finished the game and are done. You are able to have multiple pets on the app and parents can attach awards to the pet after it has leveled up. Overall, HuePets is a great tool for children ages 3-8 to help with healthy eating.
